## A new look, an Agent home, and Zero on your phone

![The redesigned Zero editor with the Agent open as a floating card over the live preview, and Issues and Agent chips in the footer](/_astro/agent-home-and-new-look.Bwn7pB5h_MF5Xt.webp)

ZeroCMS has a new look and both this site and the app have gone through a refresh. Also the usability has been improved throughout.

The AI assistant is now called the **Agent** and has a home of its own. Open it from the navigation to quickly make edits to your content. Settings for the agent have been moved to **Settings › Agent**.

Agent and Issues open as floating cards from chips in the new footer, so you can keep either one beside the page you are editing, and maximize it when you need the room.

On a phone, Zero now has a proper layout: a tab bar for navigation and a single sheet that switches between Agent, Issues, and Preview without reloading the preview.

## Saves that touch only what you changed

![Zero's Review Changes screen showing a one-line diff where only the title field changed](/_astro/cleaner-diffs.B9oQ8QKn_ZCxIMm.webp)

Previously, when you edited an entry, ZeroCMS sometimes had to rewrite the whole frontmatter block, often resulting in changes to fields you hadn’t touched.

Now Zero writes back only the fields that changed and leaves the rest of the file as it was. Existing comments, quoting style, blank lines, and line endings now all survive a save without getting reformatted and no longer show up as noise in the diff.

## The MCP server has moved to mcp.zerocms.io

The ZeroCMS MCP server now answers at its own address:

```
https://mcp.zerocms.io
```

The old `api.zerocms.io/mcp` path no longer serves MCP. If you connected Claude, ChatGPT, Cursor, or Claude Code before this change, update the server URL in your client and sign in again. New here? See [how the MCP server works](/features/mcp-server).

Moving to a dedicated host lets Zero publish its OAuth discovery documents at the locations the spec expects, so clients that want a bare origin now connect without workarounds.

## Faster opening for image-heavy sites

Opening a site in ZeroCMS used to download every file in the repository, images included, before the editor appeared. On a media-heavy site that meant waiting on hundreds of megabytes you were not about to look at.

Now Zero loads the text first and fetches each image only when something actually shows it. Listings, search, and the editor open immediately. The media library and the file browser still show every image with its real size, and downloading or comparing an image fetches it in full when you need it.

## npm, yarn, pnpm, or bun

ZeroCMS now detects the package manager from your lockfile (or the `packageManager` field in `package.json`) and installs your site with it. This applies everywhere Zero has to install your dependencies, such as the live preview.

Previously every repository was internally imported into pnpm. That worked for most sites but was lossy on some lockfiles and failed on very large dependency graphs. If your site installed fine locally but had trouble in Zero, it should now just work.

## A new home for your content

![A Case Studies collection in Zero shown as a grid of cards, each with the customer logo as its cover image](/_astro/content-library.CjU_dw9p_Z248ucx.webp)

The content view in ZeroCMS has been rebuilt around cards. Each collection is a grid, and each entry shows its cover image. Zero works out which field holds the representative image for a collection (a hero, a cover, a logo, a portrait), so there is nothing to configure. Entries without an image get a typographic cover instead.

The file browser also now allows you to sort by name or modification date with the preference being remembered per view.

- GPT 5.6 Luna (now the default)
- GPT 5.6 Sol
- Sonnet 5
- Opus 4.8
- Fable 5

## Demo

![Three demo site options in Zero: Landing page, Blog, and Documentation, shown as interactive cards](/_astro/demo.XVVfwlqs_Z1jnDT.webp)

You can now [try ZeroCMS yourself](https://go.zerocms.io/demo) without creating an account or even giving away your email.

There are three sites to choose from:

1. **Landing page.** A realistic marketing site with a landing page, team page, and guides. Showcases most of Zero’s features. The code is publicly [available on GitHub](https://github.com/zerocms-io/zero-landing-demo).
2. **Blog.** Astro’s default blog starter with no changes made. The code is publicly [available on GitHub](https://github.com/zerocms-io/zero-blog-demo).
3. **Documentation.** Astro’s Starlight starter with no changes made. The code is publicly [available on GitHub](https://github.com/zerocms-io/zero-starlight-demo).

The demos work in a time-limited private sandbox with a few constraints. To publish or to try with your own repository, [sign up for our 14-day free trial!](/signup)

## Smart media library

![Inline image field in Zero with a context menu open, showing Upload image, Generate image, and Select existing actions](/_astro/inline-image-editor.Bgmg4NRH_Z183p6s.webp)

ZeroCMS now comes with a smart media library that makes uploading, generating, and finding images a breeze.

**Zero automatically learns** where each collection stores images, and re-learns if they’re moved around. This means editors no longer need to pick a folder when adding new images: Zero does that automatically.

**Finding and placing existing images** is also faster, as Zero suggests images based on frequency and other useful criteria when opening the media library.

**Add, replace, and edit images** in Zero’s visual content editor, fully supporting frontmatter, markdown, MDX, JSON, and YAML entries. Zero renders the image field for every image prop in your Astro components in MDX.

## Automatic linking

![Zero automatically resolving the URL for preview](/_astro/automatic-linking.1vJ4zJy9_Z7Fz9S.webp)

When editing a file, ZeroCMS now automatically finds the matching URL and points the live preview at it. It’s remembered, so when you or a teammate opens the file the next time, you’re already looking at the correct page in preview.

## The agent just got a lot more capable

![Glowing threads of light converging into a luminous core, representing expanded AI capabilities](/_astro/agent-upgrades.8mKz4isb_q1f15.webp)

The content agent in ZeroCMS now ships with four new capabilities: web search, attachment support (PDFs and images), image generation, and model selection. Use them together or independently — they’re all available in the same chat interface you already know.

Drop in a PDF brief and ask the agent to draft copy from it. Ask it to search the web for the latest stats on a topic. Generate a hero image without leaving the editor. And if you need more horsepower, switch to a more powerful model like Claude Opus for the tasks that demand it.

## Quality checks and custom skills

![Quality checks and custom skills panel in Zero](/_astro/skills.BGPAMPVO_EkrY6.webp)

ZeroCMS now ships with a set of built-in content quality checks: SEO, readability, accessibility, broken links, writing style, and more. Run them on demand, in chat, or enable them as pre-publish gates so nothing slips through.

More importantly, you can now build your own skills. A skill can teach the AI how to check content against your internal standards or describe a workflow, such as content translation. Write a skill once, and it’s available to every editor on the team. Built-in skills can be toggled on or off per collection, so you run only the checks that make sense for your content.

## AI agents. Built-in.

![AI chat](/_astro/ai-chat-cover.DbTghOSD_qfKOy.webp)

ZeroCMS now ships with an AI agent that can draft content, update translations across files, find and synthesize information, or review your work.

It’s a true coworker who can do almost everything you can do, just faster. Zero automatically takes snapshots before AI edits, so you can always undo if something goes wrong.

_Note: Zero picks a capable default model for you, and you can switch to your preferred one when starting a conversation._

## Share a preview link

![Link sharing](/_astro/share-link.D1KFRo9k_icX3a.webp)

You can now share a link to the live preview, allowing anyone with the link to open the preview without having to sign in first. Use this to get feedback from your team or client before publishing, or pass the URL to an AI agent for review.

## Use Astro components in MDX

![Component picker](/_astro/components.C_hPhxPJ_xJUxq.webp)

You can now use your existing `.astro` components in the visual MDX editor. They will be accessible in the quick command menu when you type `/`. ZeroCMS will detect them automatically, read what properties they accept and then provide a matching user interface. Zero also adds import statements automatically when you add a component. Enjoy!

## Connect external AI agents to Zero

![Claude working via MCP](/_astro/mcp.DBIROGTU_Z1N6Pkq.webp)

You can now connect your own AI agents and tools like Claude, ChatGPT, Cursor, Claude Code etc. to ZeroCMS through its remote MCP server.

Access your content from anywhere, anytime. Agents will have access to tools so they can read, write and delete content on your behalf. Don’t worry, Zero takes snapshots of content before the AI makes changes so you can go back to the previous versions if something goes wrong.

To connect to Zero, simply add Zero as a connector in the tool of your choice:

![Connect Zero’s MCP server](/_astro/connect-mcp.D8E_uDYD_Z122Ef8.webp)

Zero launched in private beta in late 2025. Everything before that lives in Git history.
